Situation beyond the eastern border

“The government treats Poland's security as a priority. The situation with which we are dealing on the Polish-Belarusian border is the most serious test for our services for decades. Polish soldiers, officers of the Border Guard and the police pass this exam perfectly ” - said Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defence, during his speech to the Sejm.

"We will not allow Poland to become a route for smugglers, organised crime groups, our country's enemies, or a route for illegal migration. Its creation would violate the principle of Polish sovereignty", Minister Mariusz Kamiński said in the Sejm. At an additional session on Tuesday (9 November), the Sejm heard the Government's information on the situation on the Poland-Belarus border and the measures taken in this regard.

On Tuesday, an extraordinary session of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland was held, during which Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki presented the actions taken so far in relation to the situation at the border between Poland and Belarus. In recent days, there has been an escalation in the number of attempts to illegally cross the eastern border of our country. In eastern Poland, 15 thousand Border Guard officers and 13 thousand soldiers are guarding our territory.

Officers from the Border Guard Station in Wojtkowa detained two Azerbaijani citizens for crossing the Polish-Ukrainian border on foot. Before that, the foreigners had unsuccessfully tried to enter Poland through the railway border crossing. As established, they were declared to be undesirable persons in the EU Member States.

Due to the current situation at the Polish-Belarusian border, border traffic at the road border crossing in Kuźnica shall be suspended from 07:00 a.m. on 9th November 2021 until further notice. Travellers should go to the border crossings in Terespol and Bobrowniki.

'The barrier we intend to build on our border with Belarus is a symbol of the determination of the Polish state to limit mass illegal migration into our country. We will not allow any illegal migration route to Europe to pass through Poland,' said Minister Mariusz Kamiński on Thursday (4 November) during a press conference. The Head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration unveiled details of the construction of the barrier on the Poland-Belarus border. He also presented a visualisation of the installation.

– The current situation forces Poland to immediately undertake further projects that significantly affect the level of protection of the state border, the external border of the European Union, said Deputy Minister Maciej Wąsik. The Deputy Minister of the Interior took part in today's (26 October) joint meeting of the Committee on Local Self-Government and State Administration and the Committee on Human Rights, the Rule of Law and Petitions of the Senate of the Republic of Poland. The committees dealt with consideration of the Act on the construction of state border security installations.
