On 19-20 December 2022, the Council of Europe organised a pilot training on Psychological Support to Refugees: Strengthening Professional Capacities in Warsaw, Poland.
The aim of the event was to enhance the capacities of relevant professionals working on the ground to detect war-related traumas of mainly women and children from Ukraine and treat them adequately based on the expertise of the Council of Europe.
The training was organised by the Directorate of Political Affairs and External Relations of the Council of Europe, in close cooperation with the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Migration and Refugees and the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It gathered 32 representatives from relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior and the Administration, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health.
Other assistance activities are planned for next year, referring in detail to a number of aspects of psychosocial support.
Those activities were part of the report of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Migration and Refugees 2022, devoted to the situation of people fleeing Ukraine to Poland. They were also in line with the Council of Europe Action Plan on the Protection of Vulnerable Persons in the Context of Migration and Asylum in Europe (2021-2025).
