The upcoming meeting of the Polish-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation was the main topic of the bilateral meeting of Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Labour and Technology Robert Tomanek and the Ambassador of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili.

The Polish preparations for the 2020 EXPO in Dubai, the opportunities the trade show affords to Polish companies, as well as the return to the fast track of economic growth in the aftermath of the pandemic were the main topics of today's meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin and the Board of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency.

“This is an example of responsible, gradual and prudent easing of restrictions placed on the economy,” said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development, Labour and Technology Jarosław Gowin, commenting on the government's decision to open hotels, cinemas, theatres and ski slopes on 12 February. The Deputy Prime Minister announced that all forms of assistance would be continued for entrepreneurs whose sectors and companies are still covered by the restrictions.

At the initiative of the British side, a videoconference was held at the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology, attended by Minister of State for Trade Policy in the Department for International Trade of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Greg Hands and Robert Tomanek, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology. The debate focused on identifying potential issues, which may crop up immediately after the transition period and working together to expand bilateral trade and investment relations.

Deeper, more efficient and broader economic cooperation between Poland and Ukraine was the key issue raised during the bilateral meeting of Deputy Prime Ministers of Poland and Ukraine. This goal is to be achieved by removing customs and bureaucratic barriers preventing access to the Ukrainian market, improving the quality of B2B cooperation and continuous cooperation in the area of migration policy and support for Ukrainian citizens employed in Poland.

EU trade policy in the wake of the changing global structure, eliminating barriers on the single market and the recovery of the EU economy after the crisis were the main topics brought up during the meeting between Robert Tomanek, Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Labour and Technology, and Franck Riester, the Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness.

For the seventh consecutive time, the industrial sector in Poland shows growing economic activity. Contrary to previous forecasts, in January the PMI index rose to 51.9 points – 0.2 more compared to December. This corresponds to the biggest improvement of conditions in the Polish industry since July last year. At the same time, the January index scores the highest since July 2018.

According to the CSO data, Polish gross domestic product in the entire 2020 decreased by 2.8% compared to 2019. Although this is the first annual decrease in Polish GDP since the beginning of the democratic transition, its scale is smaller than originally expected at the beginning of the pandemic (around 4%). This result is in line with market expectations.

Strategic cooperation within the EU and the V4 Group, strengthening bilateral cooperation at the business level and joint action in the field of space policy are the main topics of today's meeting between the head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology, Jarosław Gowin, and his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szzijártó
