Deputy Minister Wiśniewski attends Warsaw Dialogue for Democracy’s 12th edition
18.11.2024
Today, Undersecretary of State Jakub Wiśniewski has inaugurated the 12th edition of the Warsaw Dialogue for Democracy. The main theme of this year’s edition is the impact of new technologies on democracy and human rights. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe.
Deputy Minister Jakub Wiśniewski underlined that the Council of Europe is the mother of all European institutions and a crown jewel of European integration. In his opening address, the official recalled the Council of Europe’s swift response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, namely the exclusion of Russia from the Council. He also referred to the new challenges to democracy and human rights posed by the development of new technologies, including artificial intelligence.
The Council of Europe’s Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge also spoke on the issue. He emphasised that it is the CoE that adopted, this year, a first ever international legally binding treaty to ensure respect for human rights, the rule of law, and legal standards on AI use.
