On 3 October, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a meeting between Undersecretary of State Jakub Wiśniewski and a delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU led by the organisation’s CEO Susan Danger. AmCham EU is a business initiative representing more than 160 US companies operating on the EU market.
The meeting covered matters related to Poland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The deputy head of Polish diplomacy spoke about the difficult timing of the Presidency, with the concurrent war in Ukraine significantly impacting stability and security in Poland as well as in the whole of Europe. The undersecretary said that the Presidency will coincide with the launch of the European Union’s new institutional cycle, having a new European Parliament and a new European Commission as partners for cooperation.
The meeting was also an opportunity to share views on the demand for action to boost the EU’s competitiveness and to support innovation among EU companies.
Both sides emphasised the strong ties that bind the United States and Poland, including a steady growth in trade between the two countries—in 2023, the turnover marked a record peak of nearly USD 28 billion. It was observed that Poland has become one of the most attractive destinations for friendshoring. Other topics on the agenda included energy, new technologies, and intellectual property.
