Conference on the future of Europe: National events in Poland

On the 17th of November 2021, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister together with the Representation of the European Commission in Poland organised the National Debate on the future of Europe.

National Debate on the future of Europe

Participants were selected among representatives of Polish civil society on the basis of criteria ensuring a reflecting diverse social groups (such as: age, gender, education, profession and place of residence). They took part in discussions within thematic workshop groups in which they were accompanied by professional moderators and experts on the thematic area. Each group discussed the key topics in European politics – climate transformation, digital transformation, European Union's internal market, health, European Union's role in the world and migration.

Konrad Szymański, Minister for European Union Affairs and Janusz Wojciechowski, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, also joined the event, to provide their insight on the challenges facing Europe today.

Workshops provided a set of conclusions and recommendations which were presented to the Polish government and the European Commission, as well as submitted to the Multilingual Digital Platform of the Conference on the future of Europe:

The conference took place on the 23rd of September 2021, in the building of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister in Aleje Ujazdowskie 1/3 in Warsaw. The event was organized as part of a series of debates and discussions held as part of the Conference on the Future of Europe in Poland. It was also an opportunity to present the Polish position on the concept of the European strategic autonomy.

During the meeting, the Minister for the European Union, Mr. Konrad Szymański, spoke about the internal and international challenges that the European Union is currently facing. The conference was organized in the form of panel discussions within three thematic blocks:

  • Towards greater EU independence in strategic sectors?
  • The euro as a tool to strengthen the international position of the EU?
  • Could the EU Benefit From US-China Rivalry?

The moderators and panelists were representatives of the world of science and experts dealing with the topics presented on a daily basis.
