Join us in Katowice
Katowice
Our city, which is at the same time a centre of modern technologies, a city of great events and a business meeting centre, is a perfect place to talk about global development in many areas. The transformation, the city has undergone in recent decades, has changed it from a typical industrial centre into a vibrant and energetic town with revitalised post-industrial areas, lots of greenery, high-level culture and many pro-social programmes, many of which are initiated by city residents.
Internet Governance Forum IGF2021 is then an excellent time to visit Katowice – the city whose potential has been recognised by many. And so, in the hope that external circumstances will be favourable to our meeting in December, I say: see you in Katowice
Marcin Krupa
Mayor of Katowice
Welcome to Katowice, a city that has come a long way in recent years. A cohesive vision and consistency in implementing subsequent projects have made the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship a modern urban centre, which is no longer associated exclusively with the mining industry. The innovative, ecological and dynamic face of Katowice can be seen, among others, in the organisation of numerous international-level events. Today’s Katowice, as the capital of the voivodeship with a population of nearly 5 million and Poland’s first metropolis, is a dynamically developing city. This is evidenced by the economic success it has achieved thanks to a skilful combination of its rich legacy with modernity, becoming a creative and innovative centre built on the solid foundations of its industrial past.
The new quality of the city is manifested, among others, by the Culture Zone, which continues good traditions of the Spodek Arena located nearby. This revitalised space encompasses the area of a former mine, where three sizeable venues have been constructed: the headquarters of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Silesian Museum and the International Congress Centre.
Katowice is also home to great events, concerts and international festivals. Visitors to Katowice should be aware that it is simply impossible to be bored here.
