Thanks to Polish support, the town of Fier has now a modern fire station
07.08.2024
Accompanied by the Chairman of the Polish-Balkan Parliamentary Group, Polish MP Tomasz Głogowski, Albanian Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha and the head of the UNDP mission in Albania, Monica Merino, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Monika Zuchniak-Pazdan on 7 August officially opened a fire station in Fier. Construction of the station and provision of specialised rescue equipment was made possible thanks to the support of the Polish government.
After the 2019 earthquake, the Polish government responded to an appeal from the Albanian authorities and decided at a donor conference to allocate €2.7 million to support Albania's rescue and fire services. In addition to the purchase and donation of three fire trucks, specialised rescue containers and the training of hundreds of firefighters and equipping them with uniforms, the aid was used to build two modern - EU-compliant - fire stations. The opening of the first of these took place in Fier on 7 August. The event, which was covered extensively by local media, was also attended by firefighters and local government representatives.
Thanks to the support of the Polish government, a second fire station will be built in Pogradec.
