Foreign Service Day at the Antipodes

18.11.2024

George Frederick Earp

On 16 November 16 1918, Marshall Józef Piłsudski sent the first dispatch to world leaders, informing the international community of the rebirth of the independent Polish State.

To commemorate this event, on November 16th we celebrate the Foreign Service Day.

On this occasion, we visited local cemeteries where diplomats who once served in the Polish consular service are buried: the first Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Australia - George Frederic Earp, his successor - Władysław Noskowski, as well  Zygmunt Przybyłkiewicz and Count Alfred Emeryk Poniński.

Interested ones, who want to dive deeper into the history of Polish diplomacy in the antipodes, we recommend reading the book "Konsul" by Bogumiła Żongołłowicz.
