Passport collection via post

In special circumstances (e.g. residing a considerable distance from the Consulate or Embassy) it is possible to request passport collection via private courier or post.

For a secure delivery of new passports to applicants residing interstate, we strongly recommend to organize a private courier company (at your own expense) to collect a new passport from the consulate and have it delivered to one’s home address. It is the safest and fastest form of delivering passports to applicants within Australia.

For mailing passports interstate one can also use services of Australia Post.

When you apply for your passport (in-person at the Consulate or the Embassy) you will need to attach the following along with your passport application:

1. completed “request for postal passport” (application form),
2. previous passport for cancellation,
3.
(if you decide to use Australia Post instead of the Courier, a prepaid "registered post" (red colour) envelope with additional paid service "person to person" with a confirmation of payment *1 and blue sticker *2,

Please note, a postal collection method increases wait time by 2 weeks (in comparison to collection in-person at the Consulate/Embassy). For this reason if you urgently require your passport for an upcoming trip (and to minimise delay) we strongly encourage in-person collection.

Furthermore, there is a risk of the passport(s) being lost by Australia Post (often as a result of an inaccurate or non-legible address). The Consulate/Embassy cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage on behalf of Australia Post.

If your passport is lost, you will need to reply for a new passport in-person and pay the application passport fee, in full, once more.

PLEASE NOTE: You must include a separate prepaid registered post large A4 envelope with each passport application. These are available from Australia Post and cannot be bought at the consular offices. Each passport application requires an envelope, for example, 1 envelope = 1 passport.

Once you have received your new passport, you must confirm receipt of it yourself and activate it online; without a passport activation you will not be able to cross the borders when traveling.
