Polish Development Projects in Papua New Guinea

Thanks to the development assistance offered by "Polish Aid", together with Polish missionaries we have implemented six projects in Papua New Guinea in 2023. 2023 marked 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Poland and Papua New Guinea.
Installation of a solar energy system for the carpentry workshop in the St. Joseph Parish in Ambunti, East Sepik Province
The workshop offers opportunities for young man from the local community to develop vocational skills and thus enter a labour market.
Host bakery in Arawa, Autonomous Region of Bougainville
The project focuses on empowering women in Arawa. The bakery will ofer them a workplace and a source of income.
Development of Pastoral Centre in Kefamo, Eastern Highlands Province
The Centre offers a wide range of training programs for the teachers, medical personel, and local leaders, as well as mentoring for families, vulnerable women, HIV-positive people and many others in need.
Installation of water tanks for the Poinini Catholic Agricultural Technical Secondary School, Kimbe, West New Britain Province
Thanks to the project, which provides facilities to collect and treat rain water, approximately one thousand students, teachers and their families will have better access to clean water.
Sewing room in the St. Claire Parish in Ialibu, Southern Highlands Province
The project offers opportunities for the in Ialibu women to learn new skills and find a source of income by sellling clothes they have made at the local markets.
Broadcast equipment for the production of documentaries and educational films, Port Moresby
Polish missionaries cooperate with various media outlests in Papua New Guinea, including the national broadcaster NBC PNG. The eqipment will be used for the production of documentaries and educational films, as well asto provide training for aspiring journalists.

Grzegorz Kasprzycki from the Parish in Ambunti, Fr. Piotr Michalski from the Catholic Diocese of Bougainville, Arawa, Bp. Valentine Gryk from the Catholic Diocese of Goroka, Kefamo, Fr. Jacek Kędzior, Chaplain of the the Poinini Catholic Agricultural Technical Secondary School, Kimbe, Fr. Robert Ablewicz from the St. Clare Parish in Ialibu, Fr. Zdzisław Mlak from Port Moresby, for very fruitful cooperation in the implementation of the projects. We also thank the Honorary Consul of Poland in Papua Nw Guinea Fr. Jan Czuba for his assistance in coordinating these activities.
According to the Polish Episcopal Commission for Missions, 65 Polish missionaries currently serve in Papua New Guinea, including diocesan priests, missionaries, nuns and one lay person. The presence of Polish missionaries in Papua New Guinea is instrumental for the implementation of development projects, co-financed by the Polish development cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.
