31.07.2022

Folklorama

Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Toronto - Magdalena Pszczółkowska, took part in the opening ceremony of the Polish Pavilion at Folklorama Festival on July 31 in Winnipeg. The opening ceremony was attended by: MP -  Raquel Dancho and the President of Canadian Polish Congress, branch Manitoba - Jolanta Gronowski.

The mission of the festival is to promote ethnic and cultural diversity and thus facilitate mutual cultural understanding of the inhabitants of the Manitoba. Folklorama gives the ethno-cultural communities of the province the opportunity to promote and celebrate their non-material culture through entertainment and joint celebration.

The first Polish settlers appeared in Manitoba as early as 1817, which makes Polish culture and traditions an inseparable part of the multicultural mosaic of this Province. The opening of the Polish Pavilion at the Folklorama Festival was a significant event expected by the local community, and the presence of Consul General Magdalena Pszczółkowska during the inauguration was a proof of the recognition of Polish authorities for the achievements of Polish diaspora in Manitoba. Apart from great Polish hospitality, the pavilion presents Polish culture with great performances of the Polish Dance Ensemble Iskry and the Polish Dance School. An unquestionable attraction for visitors is the opportunity to taste Polish dishes and drinks.

Consul General Magdalena Pszczółkowska together with the Prime Minister of the Province Heather Stefanson and Minister of Sport, Culture and Heritage czerwAndrew Smith also visited the Ukrainian Pavilion where the Polish Song and Dance Ensemble "Sokół" was invited to perform together with Ukrainian ensemble.

This year's Folklorama Festival takes place on July 31 - August 13, 2022 in Winnipeg.
