The 100th anniversary of the Polish Consulate in Montreal – the first Polish diplomatic mission in North America opened on December 15, 1919
10.12.2019
Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Montreal celebrates its 100th anniversary. The meeting, devoted primarily to the first decades of the Consulate's work, was attended by numerous representatives of Polish diaspora organizations and residents of Montreal.
Dr. Katarzyna Szrodt gave a talk on the history of the Polish consular office in Montreal. Liliana Komorowska read out the poems of Wanda Babińska (the daughter of Wacław Babiński – ambassador of Poland to Canada in 1944-45 and one of the leaders of the Polish diaspora in Montreal); and Katarzyna Fraj (violin) interpreted pieces by Bach and Elgar.
Thanks to the kindness of the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in Canada, the exhibition on this occasion included the Polish flag and the official emblem of the Republic of Poland, which had been placed on the Consulate building until 1945, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' set of provisions dating 1936, and photographs of the previous head offices of the Consulate in Montreal.
A heartfelt thank you to the numerous participants of the celebrations! The Consulate remains at your disposal!
