International Women's Day in Multilateralism

On 25th January the Liechtenstein delegation, which currently holds the presidency of the Committee of Ministers, organized for the first time in the Council of Europe the celebration of the International Women's Day in Multilateralism, established by UNESCO in 2021. The event was organized on the initiative of the Polish, Portuguese and Slovak delegations.

The initiative highlighted the fact that in the year of the organization's 75th anniversary, the Council of Europe is led simultaneously by five women in six of the highest positions: the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the President of the European Court of Human Rights, the Commissioner for Human Rights and the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly (PACE). , as well as the position of Chairman of the Committee of Ministers, which is currently held by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sports of the Principality of Liechtenstein.

To celebrate the anniversary and emphasize the role of women in diplomacy and multilateralism, a panel discussion was held "Women's leadership in the Council of Europe - a 75-year perspective" with the participation of: - Dominique Hasler, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sports of the Principality of Liechtenstein, President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe - Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe - Síofra O'Leary, President of the European Court of Human Rights - Dunja Mijatović, Commissioner for Human Rights - Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis, Secretary General of the PACE.

The speakers shared their inspiring experiences and stories from their private lives, pointing to the motivation and determination that accompanied them during their professional careers, and emphasizing the role of women in building multilateralism and a more inclusive work environment. The initiative met with great interest from the public, including the diplomatic corps and PACE parliamentarians; About 100 people gathered in the foyer of the Committee of Ministers. To document this moment in the history of RE, a commemorative photo was taken. The facility announced the event on social media.
