Polish Heritage Days in Denmark

29.04.2022

This year, Polish Heritage Days (Polske Kulturarvsdage) are celebrated in Denmark for the first time. The idea of the initiative is to promote and celebrate Polish culture, the heritage of past generations and Polish contribution to cultural, economic and social life in Denmark. Polish Heritage Days are organised and run under the patronage of the Polish Embassy in Copenhagen.

Polish Heritage Days will last throughout the month of May throughout Denmark. The celebrations will begin on the weekend around the symbolic date of 3 May, when in 1791 Poland proclaimed its Constitution (as the first country in Europe and the second in the world after the United States), a symbol of freedom and equality.

It is also a perfect opportunity to celebrate 2 May, which is celebrated in Poland and in Polish communities around the world as Polish Day and Polish Flag Day.

Moreover, the aim of the Polish Heritage Days is to integrate the Polish community with other communities living in Denmark, both on a local and national level. The essence of the Polish Heritage Days is to share a Polish culture, heritage and hospitality with our Danish friends.

The official symbol of the initiative is the white and red chequered flag used by Polish pilots fighting in the Polish Air Forces. Many of them heroically fought over the Danish skies for the freedom of the whole of Europe. The memory of them, and also of the members of the Felicja organisation, Lone and Lucjan Masłocha, binds and unites Poland and Denmark.

We warmly invite and encourage you to celebrate Polish Heritage Days!
