Film evening on the occasion of the Year of Lem
16.12.2021
On the occasion of the Year of Lem, on 16 December the Embassy of the Republic of Poland together with the Danish Film Institute organized a film evening based on Stanislaw Lem’s literature at the Cinemateket in Copenhagen.
In 2021 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Stanisław Lem, one of the fathers of world science fiction literature, futurologist, columnist and philosopher. His works have been translated into nearly fifty languages, and his "Solaris", "Cyberiada" or "Fairy Tales of the Robots" continue to fascinate and inspire writers and creators of cinema and theater to this day.
The film evening on the occasion of the Year of Lem in Copenhagen was opened by Anna Korolec-Mońko from the Polish Embassy in Copenhagen and Jesper Andersen from the Danish Film Institute. As part of the event, prof. Anna Krakus from the University of Copenhagen gave a short lecture on the film adaptations of Lem's literature and presented selected works of the Polish writer. Viewers had an opportunity to watch two Polish short films based on Lem’s literature: comedy "Roly Poly" directed by A. Wajda, based on Lem's script "Are you Existing, Mr Johns?" and "The Room" by K. Jankowski, inspired by the story " The Seventh Journey ”.
During the event, Andreas Rosenberg from the publishing house Kosmos presented Lem's novel "Eden", which has been published in Danish in 2021. The book has been translated by Judyta Preis and Jørgen Herman Monrad with the support of the Book Institute Poland.
