Polish diplomats commemorated Polish soldiers at Kantara war cemetery.
Chargé d'affaires a.i. Michał Chabros, the Polish Defense Attaché in Egypt, Colonel Zbigniew Słomiński, the Deputy Defense Attaché Colonel Jacek Popławski and Consul Anna Chabros laid a wreath at the War Memorial Cemetery in Kantara, to commemorate the Memory of Polish soldiers killed during World War II.
During the First and Second World War, Kantara was an important point in the defence of Suez and developed into a major base and hospital centre. One of the major allied medical units in the area, No 8 Polish General Hospital, adjoined the war cemetery.
259 Polish soldiers are buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery. They were fighting along Allies on the African theatre or passed away in No 8 Polish General Hospital. Kantara War Memorial Cemetery contains 1550 graves from the First World War and 387 graves from Second World War.
We remember about the Polish troops, who had lost their lives on a foreign soil.
