11.10.2024

On September 11, 2024, a reception took place at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tallinn on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the launch of a direct flights between the capitals of Poland and Estonia.

30-lecie połączenia LOT

On 10 July 1994, LOT Polish Airlines launched its first direct flight between Tallinn and Warsaw, and it has operated continuously ever since. LOT carries roughly 16,500 passengers between Tallinn and Warsaw every month, with an average of three flights each way daily. Passengers from Estonia are keen to take advantage of the transfer options offered by LOT Polish Airlines, enjoying convenient connecting flights from Warsaw Chopin Airport to Europe, USA and Canada. Tallinn is a destination with a long and rich tradition in the LOT Polish Airlines network. The carrier first connected Warsaw-Vilnius-Riga-Tallinn on the so-called Baltic Line in 1932.

Over the past thirty years, Polish-Estonian relations have been strengthening in virtually every area, including economic cooperation, cultural exchange and the increasing number of tourists visiting Estonia. We are proud to have been able to connect Warsaw and Tallinn for the past three decades. With our ongoing growth, we now offer flights not only from Tallinn to Warsaw but also to destinations across Central and Western Europe and North America, thanks to our well-designed network and convenient connecting hub in Warsaw – stresses Krzysztof Moczulski, spokesperson for LOT Polish Airlines.

Although the direct connection from Warsaw to Tallinn was launched 30 years ago, the history of LOT Polish Airlines’ presence in Estonia stretches as far as 92 years back. LOT Polish Airlines is one of the world’s oldest carriers, with its first flight inaugurated on 1 January 1929. Following the domestic routes and connections to Bucharest, Sofia, and Thessaloniki launched in the first few years of operation, the ‘LOT Baltic Line’ was officially opened in August 1932, linking the southern and northern destinations, and the Black and Aegean Seas with the Baltic Sea. This expansion of the flight network was part of the plans for closer cooperation among the Central European countries, and highlighted the unique relations linking Poland with the Baltic States. It’s hardly surprising, then, that the opening ceremony of the new route on 17-18 August 1932 was attended by President Ignacy Mościcki, Latvian Prime Minister Marģers Skujenieks, and Estonian Head of State Karl Einbund. The arrival of a Fokker F.VII/3m aircraft, operated by LOT, was marked by an orchestra and the presence of the highest state authorities at the airports.

Since 1932, Tallinn has been a key destination in our route network. So it’s no surprise that LOT Polish Airlines resumed flights to the Estonian capital in 1994, not only providing a connection between our two countries for the past three decades, but also offering access to an extensive and well-planned flight network – adds Krzysztof Moczulski. It operates its long-haul flights with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, one of the most advanced wide-body aircraft in the world. Established in 1929, LOT is the 12th oldest airline worldwide and one of Poland’s most internationally recognized brands.
