Traces of Maria Laidoner-Kruszewska
Maria Laidoner-Kruszewska, wife of General Johan Laidoner, commander of the Estonian Armed Forces, the first lady of Estonia in pre-war times, to this day symbolizes the close friendship between Poland and Estonia, which flourished in the interwar period and survived the oppression of two totalitarian regimes.
The manor house in Viimsi - the summer residence of General Johan Laidoner and Maria Kruszewska-Laidoner, which currently houses the Estonian War Museum - General Laidoner Museum collecting e.g. memorabilia of the Laidoners. Johan and Maria Laidoner lived there from 1923 until their arrest and deportation in 1940 by the Soviet authorities. General Laidoner died on March 13, 1953 in the prison in Włodzimierz in the USSR. In 1956, Maria was allowed by the Soviet authorities to return to Estonia, but without the possibility of returning to her family home and the capital city.

Monument dedicated to general Johan Laidoner and Maria Kruszewska-Laidoner - It was erected on the initiative of the Viimsi authorities and unveiled on February 12, 2014. The statue, designed by Juhan Kangilaski and Maria Freimann, symbolizes the reunion of Johan and Maria Laidoner, returning home after a long absence abroad.

The Laidoners' grave - the final resting place of Maria Kruszewska-Laidoner and the symbolic grave of General Johan Laidoner, who was buried in Włodzimierz in the USSR.
