The ambitious budget of Horizon Europe

The budget of the Horizon Europe programme for 2021-2027 amounts to EUR 95.5 billion. This implies a 30-percent increase in relation Horizon 2020 coming to its end and makes Horizon Europe the most ambitious research and innovation programme in the history of the EU.
The programme consists of three pillars: Excellent Science, Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness, as well as Innovative Europe (in billion EUR):

In addition, EUR 3.4 billion has been allocated to Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area, including EUR 3 billion to widening participation and popularising excellence, and EUR 0.4 billion to reforming and improving the European research and innovation system.
