Jerzy Iwanow Szajnowicz on airport buses in Athens and Thessaloniki

Learn more about the hero of two nations.
Until the end of September 2021 the Embassy is promoting the figure of a hero of two nations, the Polish and Greek, Jerzy Iwanow - Szajnowicz. All passengers travelling through the Greek airports in Athens and Thessaloniki will have the chance to see the campaign wrapped on two buses at Athens Airport and one in Thessaloniki Airport.
The project was implemented with the help of the Polish Post that issued an anniversary stamp on the occasion of the celebrations of the bicentennial anniversary of the Greek Revolution. This was a remarkable event in the history of Europe in which hundreds of philhellenes took part and over 50 Poles among them, who fought in Greece.
Jerzy Iwanow - Szajnowicz is a hero of the two nations who was active during the World War II not only as a legendary agent of the Polish and British secret services but also as a hero of the Greek Resistance. And although he is a figure from the 20th century he remains the most significant and spectacular example of the involvement of Poles in the Greek fight for freedom.
