National Holiday of the May 3 Constitution
30.04.2020
On May 3, Poland and Poles around the world celebrate a national holiday commemorating the adoption in 1791 of the first in Europe and the world's second written constitution.
This document, despite being signed 229 years ago, still carries several current messages. It showed model of political consensus between conflicting political parties. Its creators proved their imagination, long-term thinking and acting for the benefit of the country. The constitution was a strong political impulse which stimulated public awareness of the need of change in the way the state was operating. It also gave hope for future reforms.
The 3rd of May Constitution was a civilization achievement of the citizens of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, an important page in the common history of Poland and Lithuania. It became a model for other countries. Today, facing the epidemiological threat to the whole world, responsible civic attitude is needed more than ever.
Unfortunately this year's celebration of our national holiday on May 3 will not have the traditional character of a meeting with friends and partners of the Embassy. However we would like to encourage you to follow our Twitter account @PLinGreece and watch the short presentation on:
