Visit at Koya University

On October 6th, 2020 Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Erbil Dominik Musiał visited Koya University, where he met with the president prof. Wali M. Hamad, the deans of all of the faculties, students and researchers.

Koya University was founded in 2003 and is educating nearly 5000 students at present. The University established working relations with Polish counterparts among others: Warsaw University of Life Sciences and the University of Silesia.

The discussion with the authorities of the university circled around the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic threat and its impact on higher education, the chances of the current academic year completion in various modes: traditional vs. blended learning but also scientific research aiming at the development of vaccine and treatment for battling COVID-19. The deans of the respective faculties: Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Health, Faculty of Humanity and Social Science, Faculty of Education, School of Medicine familiarized the consul with scope of activities of their units and pointed at prospective fields of cooperation with universities in Poland.

Further stages of the visit included a meeting with law students and a visit the Faculty of Science and Health.

There are 35 active universities in Kurdistan, 16 of which are public and 19 private against a total of 110 universities in the remaining (federal) provinces of Iraq, 35 of which are public and 75 private.
