KINOPOLIS 2024 - Polish Film Festival

05.12.2024

KINOPOLIS - Polish Film Festival took place from 5th until 8th December in the Irish Film, Institute in Dublin. It was a great occasion to watch the best Polish new releases and meet leading actors and filmmakers.

The strong line-up of films in last year’s IFI Kinopolis served as a snapshot of not just the best of new Polish cinema, but also of a society that, like that of Ireland, has become increasingly diversified and enriched by the arrival, acceptance, and integration of the richness of other cultures into their own.

We presented 9 movies in total and the following guests were in atendance: actresses Sandra Drzymalska, Julia Chętnicka and Afina Ostapenko, actor Marcin Dorociński, filmmaker Maria Zbąska and screenwriter Line Langebek.

This year’s festival began with excellent A Girl with a Needle - a Danish story told by a Polish director with Swedish roots; Minghun saw the observation of Chinese custom by Polish loved ones; and the harrowing, excellent People was, sadly, well named in its depiction of the Ukrainian conflict that may be all too horrifyingly familiar to those fleeing other international assaults. On the lighter side, we offered the heartwarming tales of a grumpy postman and a couple trying to fall in love with each other again, and a classic comedy featuring a titan of Polish acting, the late Jerzy Stuhr.
