The "30 Years On: Insights from East-Central and Wider Europe" conference initiated by the Polish Embassy took place in TCD

24.09.2019

The conference "30 Years On: Insights from East-Central and Wider Europe" spearheaded by the Polish Embassy in Dublin and co-organised with the embassies of the Czech Republic, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine and in cooperation with the TCD Trinity International Development Initiative took place on September 24, 2019 at the Trinity Long Room Hub.

presentation on Poland

This well-attended conference represented an excellent opportunity to share insight from the most recent history of the region with academics, policy-makers, witnesses and representatives of the general public and the international community in Ireland.

The conference was inaugurated by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Ireland Ms. Anna Sochańska. The academic representatives from the ten countries, i.e. Poland, Czech Republic, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine gave engaging and informative speeches, which were followed by questions from the audience and plenty of opportunity for informal networking and socialising during the breaks and the wine reception.

As such, the organization of this conference has been a case of an exemplary cooperation between the ten countries as well as between the ten diplomatic missions and Irish academic institutions.

The thirtieth anniversary since the beginning of the transformation processes in our region has been an excellent opportunity to celebrate the progress our countries have achieved and also recap the story of the paths each of the nations represented yesterday have taken, while giving the opportunity to Irish academics and members of the general public to discuss the insight our nations have gained over the last three decades.
