Dr. Kea Norra Barua and Fr. Wojciech Ulman decorated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland with the Bene Merito honorary distinction

On On March 5, 2021, Ambassador Jacek Bazański, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Zbigniew Rau, awarded Dr. Kea Norra Barua and Fr. Wojciech Ulman with the Bene Merito honorary distinction, in presence of the Polish community in Kenya and Kenyan graduates of Polish universities. This distinction is awarded to Polish citizens and to citizens of foreign countries in recognition of their merits in promoting Poland abroad.

Bene Merito honorary distinction for Dr. Kea Norra Barua and Fr. Wojciech Ulman

Dr. Kea Norra Barua is one of the first Kenyan doctors to graduate from medical studies in Poland. In 1969 he graduated from the Medical Academy in Łódź and since then has been practicing in Kenya as a doctor, specializing in the field of paediatrics. He is a well-known and experienced medic, and thanks to his studies in Poland, he makes a significant contribution to the development of the Kenyan health service. Together with his family, he actively participates in the life of the Polish community in Kenya, maintains strong business ties with Poland, and willingly supports the Embassy in the event of consular interventions requiring the support of a doctor.

Fr. Wojciech Ulman is the superior of the Franciscan mission in Uganda. He carries out many aid and charity projects in Uganda, mainly in the education and health care sectors. The Wanda Mattuga health Centre in Matugga near the capital of the country, Kampala, has been built thanks to his involvement. He is also actively involved in the activities of the Polish community in Uganda, spreads knowledge about Polish places of remembrance in Uganda. The Sanctuary of of the Ugandan martyrs in Munyonyo, where he works, is a place always open to the Polish community and Poles in Uganda.
