The European Union Ambassador to Kenya, Simon Mordue, together with Ambassadors of Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Slovakia, Spain and Poland, as well as the Deputy Heads of Mission of France and the EU, were on a working visit to Meru County, at the invitation of Meru Governor, H. E. Kiraitu Murungi.

The envoys listened to a presentation on Meru County and Meru Vision 2040 and then visited the Meru County Gender Department and the Meru Twaweza Women Empowerment Programme, co-funded by Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden. They later saw the Meru Cancer Centre at the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, the Njogune Boarding Primary School, the Kionyo Tea Factory, the Kaguru Agricultural Training Centre at Nkubu and also met two agri-entrepreneurs funded under the EU's AGRIFI project.

The visit was an opportunity to establish a closer working relationship with the County Government of Meru, as well as to oversee the implementation of development projects in the region by different EU partners.
