The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nairobi took the honorary patronage over the DUOS Festival organized as part of the project entitled Transcultural Perspectives in Art and Art Education (TPAAE). The TPAAE project, financed within the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020, is implemented by a consortium of six institutions: the Academy of Art in Szczecin - coordinator (Poland), the National Museum in Szczecin (Poland), the University of Macerata (Italy), Pwani University (Kenya), Kenyatta University (Kenya) and Distant Relatives Events Ltd (Kenya).

The project, primarily based on the sharing of knowledge between partners, will open a specialization in art, culture and design at the Pwani University, in cooperation with Macerata University specializing in transcultural education and Kenyatta University - the only university in Kenya offering education in the field of fine arts. The Academy of in Szczecin is responsible for establishing a specialization in art education at the Diploma and Bachelor's level at Pwani University.

Artistic education at Pwani University is supported by the organization of the DUOS Festival, a Polish-Kenyan art festival based on the exchange of knowledge and cooperation between artists from the Academy of Art in Szczecin and the Kenyan coast. The festival covers various fields of art, including fashion, dance, painting, photography, sculpture, installation and films. Its first edition will take place on March 9-27, 2021 with the final in Kilifi near Mombasa on the Kenyan coast (March 25-27, 2021).

Initiatives as part of the DUOS Festival will be carried out in working groups consisting of Polish-Kenyan artistic duos and student groups of five. The effects of subsequent editions of the Festival will be presented at exhibitions at the National Museum in Szczecin. The first such exhibition is planned for May this year.

More information about the project and the Festival itself is available on the dedicated website.
