Monitoring of two projects implemented at the Kenyatta University under Polish Aid Small Grants Scheme
23.07.2020
The Embassy of the Republic of Poland, within its Small Grants Scheme, has up to date financed the implementation of two projects at the Department of Music & Dance of the Kenyatta University in Nairobi. In 2010 we equipped a professional recording studio that serves the students up to this day, while in 2018 we bought eight keyboards with accessories to further enhance the Department's capacities and accommodate the growing number of students.
During the monitoring visit, Counsellor Ewa Zaleska and Attaché Iwona Lula have not only seen the two facilities financed under Polish Aid, namely the recording studio and the keyboard laboratory, but they also had a chance to meet with the Kenyatta University management: Prof. John Okumu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. John Mugubi, Dean of the School of Creative and Performing Arts, Film & Media Studies and Dr Isaiah Oyugi, Chairperson of the Department of Music and Dance. It was an opportunity to discuss previous joint projects, such as movie screenings and participation of the Kenyatta University Band in celebration of Polish National Days, and explore possible areas of further cooperation.
The department of Music and Dance is one of the oldest departments in the School of Creative and Performing Arts, Film and Media Studies at the Kenyatta University. It has doubled the number of students in the last few years and currently educates around 400 people a year. Most of the music teachers in Kenya graduate from the Kenyatta University. One of the professors within the Department is Polish citizen Ms. Iwona Odongo.
