Prof. Zbigniew Rau - the new foreign minister of Poland

On Wednesday, 26 August 2020, Prof. Zbigniew Rau received the appointment from the hands of the President of Poland Andrzej Duda. At the MFA headquarters, the previous Foreign Minister Prof. Jacek Czaputowicz ceremonially handed over the office to his successor.

Zbigniew Rau is a lecturer and a professor of law. In 1981-1995, he held lectures and scholarships at numerous foreign universities (British, American and German, among others). Since 1995, he has worked at the University of Lodz and is currently the chairman of the Department of Political and Legal Doctrines. Linked with the democratic opposition in communist Poland, he became a member of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union “Solidarity”. He was elected senator in 2005. In 2015-2019 Professor Rau was the governor of the Lodzkie province. Upon becoming a member of parliament for the Sejm’s 9th term, he chaired the Foreign Affairs Committee.
