Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Marcin Przydacz visits Lebanon 26.09.19-1.10.19

Participation in the European Investment Bank conference, bilateral talks, opening of the Polish-German school reconstruction project and monitoring of humanitarian and development projects financed under Polish Aid were the most important points of the Undersecretary of State's visit to Lebanon.

This year's 19th edition of the European Investment Bank EIB MED 2019 conference in Beirut was devoted to investing in sustainable development in the Mediterranean.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz emphasized that the partnership between Warsaw and the European Investment Bank (EIB) may increase the scale of economic growth and employment, as well as reduce the risk of migration from the Middle East. He underlined that Poland is ready to cooperate with the regional partners and supports the communities which bear the greatest burden of the Syrian crisis. Help as close as possible to the refugee's place of origin is of great value.

During his stay in Lebanon Minister Przydacz visited Burj Hammoud where Polish Aid in cooperation with UN Habitat and PCPM implements the project consisting of modernization of public utilities networks, creation of renewable energy systems, improvement of environmental conditions within the neighborhood by greening the targeted communal spaces and building of roof gardens. Awareness campaign is important part of the project. Another important component includes training of local fire fighters.   

During the visit in Ammatour Minister Marcin Przydacz together with German Ambassador to Lebanon Dr. Georg Birgelen and Ambassador of Poland Przemyslaw Niesiolowski officially opened the primary school, renovated and  expanded thanks to Polish – German joint program of schools rehabilitation.

The implementation of Polish Aid projects in Akkar region and Arsal in the North and North-East of Lebanon respectively was a response to the humanitarian crisis in Syria that affected 5 million of refugees living in extremely difficult conditions. Polish Government cooperated with partner governments in the region, the EU, EIB to support countries that are the most affected by the refugee crisis. Polish Aid in Lebanon in cooperation with PCPM, UNHCR and NGO’s implemented, among others, “cash for rent” project securing a shelter for poorest refugees in Akkar; preparation of informal settlements in the North of Lebanon for winter, access to education, health care for Syrian refugees and host communities.
