High-Level International Donor's Conference for Ukraine held in Warsaw on the 5th of May 2022
05.05.2022
The UN estimates that more than 12 million people in war-torn Ukraine are in urgent need of humanitarian aid, including food, shelter and medical supplies. The UN and its humanitarian partners have scaled up their operations in response to the overwhelming need.
On 5th May in Warsaw, Poland and Sweden will co-host an International Donors’ Conference for Ukraine in partnership with the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, and with the participation of the UN. The conference will facilitate the pledging of additional funds, which will be used for immediate life-saving humanitarian assistance via the Ukraine Flash Appeal and other funding mechanisms.
The aim of the event in Warsaw will be twofold:
- First, to allow the international community to announce new pledges, allocations and disbursements aimed at meeting immediate humanitarian needs
- Second, to create a forum for the discussion of how to support Ukrainian society and its longer term needs.
Today, true solidarity is needed to effectively support Ukrainian society. Poland and Sweden want to encourage international partners to jointly respond to the difficult humanitarian situation in Ukraine.
The meeting will be held at the level of heads of state and government, with the participation of representatives of global business and financial institutions. The conference will be the beginning of a series of aid events for war-torn Ukraine in the coming months.
