Polish support for the project implemented by UNICEF Libya
29.12.2021
In 2021 Poland for the second time supported UNICEF‘s Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) program.
The program is increasing awareness and enabling conflict-affected children to go about their lives more safely (trainings, EORE sessions for conflict-affected children and their caregivers, dissemination of different public information and messages through focused EORE campaigns and advocacy). In 2020 Poland’s support contributed to reaching 41 970 people with key messages on EORE. We hope this year will be more beneficiaries among boys, girls and their communities in Libya. We are happy to be part of UN efforts to increase common awareness of ERW.
More than 0,5 mln people could be at risk from contamination from explosive hazards in Libya. Children and adolescents are highly exposed and are particularly at risk of explosive remnants of war (ERW) injury because of their inherent curiosity, mobility and unawareness of how deadly the explosive ordnances are. Children caught in a blast are less likely to survive because their small bodies are more vulnerable. Those who survive are likely to experience serious physical, psychological and social problems and may have their life chances affected by the consequences of the incidents, for example be pulled from school.
