On 15th of June we celebrate the 81st anniversary of the sinking of the Polish destroyer ORP 'Kujawiak' off the coast of Malta. Polish Ambassador to Malta Tomasz Czyszek and Consul Łukasz Felczak laid a wreath commemorating this tragedy at the plaque at the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta.

The naval ship participated in operation 'Harpoon' which was one of two simultaneous Allied convoys sent to supply Malta in the Axis-dominated central Mediterranean Sea in mid-June 1942, during the Second World War. On the night of June 15/16, 1942, thirteen Polish sailors lost their lives.
