Polish sports clubs set off promoting Poland

03.08.2023

Polish clubs, sports associations and their member athletes have been representing our country on the international arena for many years as our sports ambassadors abroad. The project of Poland’s promotion through sport, initiated by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and carried out by the Polish Tourist Organization as the project operator, will systematize and intensify activities in this area.

Minister Kamil Bortniczuk with vice presidents of: Legia Sport Club - Mr Marcin Herra and PTO - Mr Marcin Rozycki

At the Legia stadium in Warsaw, in the presence of Minister of Sport and Tourism Kamil Bortniczuk, an agreement was signed between the Polish Tourism Organization (PTO) and Legia Warszawa that takes part in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa Conference League. The event officially launched the project in 2023.

The promotion of Poland through sport will be carried out by representatives of six team sports who, in their leagues, will win places giving them the possibility to play in European cups or European cup qualifiers.

In 2023, PLN 51.5 million has been allocated for the project. The specific amounts to be received by Polish athletes and sports clubs for conducting the promotion activities depend, firstly, on the submitted offer indicating the range of services offered and the expected reach and, secondly, on the assessment of the real media potential and the result of negotiations between the entities.

The project, developed with a focus on flagship teams representing Poland on international arenas, highlights the connection between sport and tourism. Competitions and successes in European cups provide a unique opportunity to promote Poland and its individual regions. We are pleased that the Polish tourist brand will be promoted through sport,

 - said Minister of Sport and Tourism Kamil Bortniczuk.

The agreement with Legia Warszawa is the first such document signed in 2023 between PTO and Polish representatives on international sports arenas. In the coming days, similar agreements to carry out promotion activities will be concluded by Raków Częstochowa, Lech Poznań i Pogoń Szczecin.

Legia Warszawa has been proudly representing Poland abroad for years. Thus, our cooperation with the Polish Tourism Organization gives broad possibilities for both parties. We are strongly interested in promoting our country and our city while playing matches in European arenas. We want to make foreigners interested in our history and culture and attract them to visit Poland. Such programs are very much needed. By getting through to different communities and using our reach we can make Poland increasingly attractive for tourists,

- said Marcin Herra, Managing Vice-President of Legia Warszawa.

The project covers the following sports: table tennis, ice hockey, basketball, handball, volleyball and football.

Major sports events and prestigious competitions are a magnet not only for TV audience but also for fans who often travel hundreds or even thousands of kilometres to support athletes in sports arenas. I believe that the project will contribute, on the one hand, to finalizing the difficult process of rebuilding inbound tourism and, on the other hand, to strengthening the position and role of our country on the international arena,

– concluded Vice-President of the Polish Tourism Organization Marcin Różycki.

The officially inaugurated project is the largest undertaking aimed at promoting Poland through sport, carried out together with PTO in recent years. It is also a major opportunity to highlight the attractions of our country among large groups of potential visitors.
