mikko-alava

Prof. Mikko Alava has been the Director of the NOMATEN Center of Excellence, at the National Center for Nuclear  Research for the last three years. NOMATEN is an EC H2020 “Widening” CSA action, with CEA (France) and VTT (Finland) as core partners – and it is also a CoE with core funding from the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP). NOMATEN  has grown from zero to close to 50 research staff, working on materials for extreme conditions and radiopharmaceuticals. The key to this success is international cooperation with the above mentioned partners and with other first-rate research and development institutions and research groups. The past of Prof. Alava as a scientist working at statistical physics and its applications in materials science and in high-performance computing has also been strongly influenced by research collaboration and by international research in various communities such as CECAM (material simulation).
