Achievements of outstanding Polish and Nigerian women - we inspire and support women

03.12.2021

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Abuja together with UN Women Nigeria organized on November 29 workshops for Nigerian women inspired by the life and achievements of outstanding Polish and Nigerian women. The event took place as part of the campaign entitled “16 days of activism against gender based violence”.

Outstanding Polish and Nigerian Women - workshop for women

This year, we especially appreciate and promote the achievements of outstanding Polish women who have throughout the history of Poland made breakthrough discoveries in various fields of science, excelled in many different walks of life or have been honored with prestigious awards. We want to inspire and motivate other women to fight for their rights, support their professional and personal development and, above all, appeal to stop acts of violence against women.

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland together with UN Women Nigeria invited ambitious Nigerian women aspiring to the role of leaders and social activists to participate in all-day workshops in order to gain knowledge and tools to strengthen their potential. During the event, women could get to know selected female figures from Polish history thanks to the distribution of the publication "Outstanding Polish Women". We were honored to welcome many distinguished guests including:  Nigerian Minister for Women, H. E. Dame Pauline Tallen, UN Women Representative, Comfort Lamptey, Hon. Aishatu J. Dukku- Chairman, Committee on electoral matters, House of Representatives, Vivianne Ihekweazu, managing director Nigeria Health Watch, women ambassadors from Germany, Finland, Ireland, Malaysia, consul from Colombia, representative of the EU Delegation in Abuja. The workshops were conducted by an experienced forensic psychologist, dr. Fatima Aliku from Neem Foundation. The special guest of the workshop was a Polish-Nigerian singer and composer, Ifi Ude, who shared her experience during an online video conversation and gave the participants tips on how to develop their own careers.

The theme of this year's campaign is "Orange the World: End violence against women now!".
