EU Delegation and Member States pledges support for recipients of Erasmus scholarship

On August 24, the European Union Delegation held a pre-departure orientation for recipients of the Erasmus post graduate scholarship. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland was present at the event.

This year, the EU awarded a scholarship to 200 Nigerians to study at 75 universities in 20 different European countries, including of course Poland and 17 other European Union Member States. At the event in Abuja, the head of the European Union delegation in Nigeria Samuela Isopi said the European Union program was created to support education and broaden the skills of young people not only in Europe but also around the world.

Erasmus + is a master degree program that EU run for 12 or 24 months. Nigerian awardees will go to 75 different universities in 20 different countries across Europe, including 18 European Union member states. During that period, they will have the opportunity to visit up to six countries across Europe. The programme will help to build a new generation of citizens, keen to work together for peace, prosperity and for the common good.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu commended the delegation of the European Union for the scholarship grants which also offers the students to undertake training courses and tour in Europe. The Minister, represented by the Director Federal Scholarship Board Mrs Asta Ndajiwo urged the awardees not to be distracted but be focus on their studies while in Europe

To increase the visibility of the event, the EU decided this year to combine pre-departure orientation for recipients of the Erasmus post graduate scholarship with a Study Fair, which was open to the general public. Member States, including Poland had the opportunity to get a seat at the Study Fair to present the national, educational programs. this was a chance to present our national scholarship program NAWA Stefan Banach Scholarship which is extremely popular with Nigerian students.
