Jubilee of the Visegrad Group

The Ambassadors of the Visegrad Group in Abuja celebrated the 30th anniversary of regional cooperation.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration on cooperation between Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary within the Visegrad Group. The Declaration provided a political framework for extensive cooperation between Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary, and brought closer the societies of the three, and later four, countries. The Visegrad Group’s anniversary coincided with Poland’s presidency of the Group from July 2020 until June 2021.
On this occasion, Ambassador Joanna Tarnawska, in cooperation with the Ambassadors of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, organized a jubilee ceremony at her residence in Abuja. Among the guests, were ambassadors from EU Member States, representatives of Nigerian institutions and the federal government. In her speech, the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland emphasized the achievements of the V4 group and commitment on the EU forum and in the West African region. The guests of honor were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, and former MP of Poland, John Godson.
During the ceremony, traditional music pieces from Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia were performed by a Nigerian violinist. Traditional dishes from the V4 countries were served. The guests also had the opportunity to see the exhibition presenting the history of the Visegrad Group.
