Nigerian adaptation of the play, ‘Out at Sea’ by a Polish playwright, Slawomir Mrozek - celebrating Independence Day in Abuja

On the occasion of the anniversary of independence, on November 11, a special event was held at the Polish Embassy in Abuja. The Nigerian theater group Arojah Royal Theater staged their own adaptation of S. Mrożek's play titled "Out at sea".

Among the invited guests were representatives of the Nigerian authorities, the diplomatic corps, as well as people of culture and media. The performance was warmly received, and its universal message on democracy and freedom gained understanding among international audiences. In her speech, Ambassador Joanna Tarnawska emphasized the immense role of culture, language and religion in the history of the Polish nation, especially with regard to regaining independence in 1918. Ambassador Tarnawska encouraged Nigerians to care for democratic values ​​and freedom, as they are not given once and for all. The artistic director of Arojah Royal Theater, Mr. Om'Oba Jerry Adesewo, pointed out that such cultural partnership initiatives are a very good opportunity to look into the history of other nations and that this is the strength of the theater.
