Poland in the OECD

On behalf of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia we are pleased to invite you to the virtual webinar on E-Waste Management System: lessons from V4 Countries on Thursday 8 April from 11:00-12:30 Paris time (CET).

Electric and electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing elements of the world’s environmental problem. According to the UN’s Global E-waste Monitor 2020 a record 53.6 million metric tonnes (Mt) of electronic waste was generated worldwide in 2019, an average of 7.3 kg per capita, up 21 per cent in just five years. The UN also predicts global e-waste - discarded products with a battery or plug - will reach 74 Mt by 2030, almost a doubling of e-waste in just 16 years. Only 17,4% of generated e-waste are collected and recycled in a formal way. Most is undocumented, meaning it likely ends up in landfill, incinerated, traded illegally or processed in a substandard way. That means hazardous substances spilling into the environment, poisoning the ground and people living nearby.

As rapidly developing economies, V4 country’s citizens use and consume a large quantity of electronic and electric devices. In addition, V4 countries are important producers of home appliances and other electric and electronic devices and our governments and citizens care about the way the waste is being managed (collected, re-used, recycled etc.).

During the webinar we will be pleased to share with you our experience with the e-waste management, challenges and possible solutions to the problems and discuss it with the EU Commission and the OECD experts.
