In his today’s address, Deputy Minister Jakub Wiśniewski emphasised the key role of fighting disinformation in strengthening democratic systems around the world. He pointed out that counteracting this phenomenon is particularly vital in the context of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine and hybrid threats posed by Moscow to democratic countries.

The undersecretary of state drew attention to the fact that the current geopolitical situation requires further strengthening of democratic values and close cooperation to protect and promote human rights. He also announced that Poland will run for presidency of the Community of Democracies Governing Council in 2025.

The Community of Democracies was established in Warsaw in 2000 on the initiative of Minister of Foreign Affairs Professor Bronisław Giermek and US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Its founding document is the Warsaw Declaration, signed on 27 June 2000 by representatives of 106 states.
