OSCE ODIHR’s anniversary conference

“From the very beginning, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights has remained one of the OSCE’s fundamental institutions, renowned for its support to the participating states,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk as he opened a conference to mark the Office’s 30th anniversary.
The OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights is located in Warsaw. The Office’s tasks include drafting recommendations and opinions and providing support to OSCE member states regarding observance of human rights and democratisation. Its important function is also to observe elections in OSCE’s member states.
In his speech, Deputy Minister Szynkowski vel Sęk also referred to the incoming Polish presidency of the OSCE in 2022. “Our presidency will be a proof of Poland’s commitment to promote human rights around the world, besides our current membership of the UN Human Rights Council,” said Polish diplomat.
Besides the deputy minister, the opening session was also attended by Sweden’s Foreign Minister and OSCE’s Chairperson-in-Office Ann Linde and Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Matteo Mecacci.
