We are pleased to announce that thanks to the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw, we were able to provide initial assistance to the students of the school, which is attended by children from the poorest families in the region. We have purchased school books, teaching aids and sports equipment. Our upcoming plans include renovation of school furniture, purchase of healthy drinking water dispensers, which is a luxury good in this part of the world, as well establishing additional tailoring and plumbing classes, which in the future will give the young people an opportunity to acquire a profession and a decent source of income.

Mashal Model School is a non-profit organization registered with the local authorities in 1984 as a private institution. The organization itself is the founder of the school in Bari Imam (Islamabad) and the neighboring colony of Rimsah Masih. Started in 2008, its primary focus is on education for children from poor families, slums and refugees from Afghanistan and other regions of Pakistan such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (including North and South Waziristan, former FATA), Gilgit-Baltistan, and Sindh. The institution is located in a backward and under-invested part of Islamabad, with a prevalent lack of awareness of the importance of training and education. Most of the children of this area are out of school mainly for economic reasons - families here have an average of seven children, and as a result, providing basic nutrition consumes most of their time. Children between the ages of 3 and 17 engage in odd jobs, begging, criminal activities, terrorism, trafficking and drug use, and are often brutally, sexually and emotionally abused. Mashal Model School provides children with full-day shelter, opportunities for gaining literacy and general education in English, as well as arranging entertainment and providing access to sports equipment. It also focuses on teaching practical skills that, combined with an education, will give them the opportunity to escape the cycle of poverty. The facility promotes proper attitudes by implementing shared learning for boys and girls, fighting gender inequality, building local unity and providing care and learning for the youngest preschool children. 

In the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, the school's situation has deteriorated significantly as many international organizations located in the neighboring diplomatic enclave have ceased their activities and left Pakistan, thus closing the long-standing path of financial and material assistance behind them. The school is in a critical situation, threatened with complete closure, which for more than 750 students means no social existence in the future. 

Below we present the first results of our collaboration, while encouraging all interested parties to join the campaign to help these amazing, strong and talented children.
