Europe expresses its solidarity with Ukraine
24.02.2025
On the third anniversary of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Embassy of Poland in Islamabad, in collaboration with the Embassies of France, Germany, and the Czech Republic, along with the Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan, hosted an evening dedicated to expressing solidarity with Ukraine.
The event featured a screening of a documentary film from the Ukrainian series "Culture vs War," complemented by a photo exhibition from the same series. Additionally, a second exhibition showcasing photographs of Przemyśl taken during the initial days of the conflict was organized by the French Embassy.
The Russian leadership's decision to begin military action constitutes a breach of the essential principles of international law and order, which they are obligated to uphold as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Ambassador Maciej Pisarski emphasized in a speech on behalf of the other organizers. Aggression against a neighboring country has destroyed peace in Europe, threatened food and energy security for the rest of the world, especially in developing countries. Ukraine is defending itself against aggression, and their survival as a nation and state is at stake.
Ambassador Pisarski underscored the commitment to persist in supporting Ukraine. This support embodies the fundamental values that promote humanity, peace, and equal rights for all nations. These principles are not solely Western ideals; rather, they represent the essential basis for the harmonious coexistence of all countries, irrespective of their size or wealth, as noted by Ambassador Pisarski. The resilience demonstrated by Ukrainians has affirmed the existence of a Ukrainian state, which the Kremlin has sought to undermine, and their resolve to defend against aggressors remains steadfast. Furthermore, the Ukrainian nation conveys a clear message: "Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine." Ambassador Pisarski also highlighted that discussions regarding European security must involve the active engagement of European nations.
Ukrainian Ambassador Markiian Chuchuk emphasized the unwavering resolve of the Ukrainian people and the crucial assistance provided by the international community, which enables Kyiv to maintain control over 82% of the nation's territory. He explicitly identified the root cause of Russian aggression as the imperialistic ambitions of the Kremlin. Ambassador Chuchuk further asserted that Moscow's objective is to erase the Ukrainian identity, including its culture and heritage.
Ambassador Chuchuk urged Ukraine's allies to maintain their steadfast support. He emphasized that withdrawing support for Kyiv would not lead to peace; rather, it would embolden Moscow to escalate its actions, further contributing to global instability. Additionally, he highlighted Ukraine's dedication to achieving a just and enduring peace by the year 2025. Kyiv asserts that any lasting peace must protect Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security, underpinned by international assurances.
The event was attended by heads of mission and diplomats from EU member states and like-minded countries alongside local specialists, think-tank members, and a significant number of journalists.
