Poland in Qatar

Ambassadors and other diplomats representing countries whose teams qualified for this year's World Cup gathered at the residence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Qatar - Janusz Janke, to share their organizational experiences so far. It was the second meeting of this kind organized by the Polish mission before the upcoming football tournament. Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning, also attended the meeting which was held on 26th October.

Documentary and Feature Film Studios (WFDiF) has launched a Polish cinematography streaming platform called "35mm.online". In the digital space of the 35mm.online platform https://35mm.online/ we are presented with a collection of nearly 4,000 unique, digitized and reconstructed film materials including some classics of the Polish cinematography of the recent decades, documents and animations.

On the occasion of the National Education Day, Ambassador Janusz Janke and Consul Adam Sadownik met with the teachers and personnel of the Witold Pilecki Polish School in Qatar. We would like to thank all teachers and school staff for their determination and effort that they put into teaching Polish and promoting Polish culture.

Paweł Jabłoński, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted consultations with Dr. Ahmad Hassen Al Hammadi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar. The talks concentrated on the issues of bilateral political and energy cooperation. The deputy ministers positively assessed Polish-Qatari relations, pointing to the high dynamics of the political dialogue, which is reflected in regular political consultations and meetings at the highest level. Mutual openness to close cooperation was confirmed, both in a bilateral format and in forums of international organizations. The Undersecretary of State Paweł Jabłoński presented Polish activities aimed at increasing the availability of Ukrainian grain to the world market and pointed to the global consequences of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. He stressed that Poland considered the Russian invasion of Ukraine illegal. Deputy Minister Jabłoński presented the details of the prospects for strengthening Poland's sectoral cooperation with the State of Qatar in the field of defence, energy, digital economy, green technologies and tourism. The deputy ministers also discussed Middle East issues. Previous Polish-Qatari consultations at the deputy ministerial level took place in November 2021 in Doha.

The Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), the leading government financial and business organization in Qatar, hosted the annual Ambassadors Round Table entitled "Powering Foreign Investment Towards 2030." The event, held on 5th October, brought together leaders from the Qatar financial and investment sector. During the meeting, the Qatar-Poland Business Council was awarded as one of the most active business councils in Qatar. The Department of International Trade (DTI UK), the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), and the American Chamber of Commerce also found their place in prestigious group of winners.

As a result of the contacts initiated with the participation of the Polish Embassy in Doha, a Memorandum of Understanding between Qatar University and the Polish company Specter Solutions was signed today. The agreement concerns cooperation in the development of drone technologies. The Polish company hopes to implement joint projects not only in Qatar, but also in the entire region. The memorandum simultaneously opens the way to wider cooperation in the field of new technologies with Polish universities. The first contacts with the Warsaw University of Technology have already been established. On the Qatari side, the MoU was officially signed by the vice-dean of Engineering College, which currently educates about 4500 students in several engineering fields. Janusz Janke, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, who participated in the ceremony, assured of the Embassy’s continuous support for the joint activities in the Hi-Tech area. The Ambassador took the opportunity to invite the collaborating parties to the next edition of the Polish-Qatar New Tech Forum.

The Polish office of Qatar Airways, in cooperation with Discover Qatar, organized a visit to Qatar for representatives of 8 travel agencies: Primapol, Planet Escape, Flugo, ITAKA, Nekera, Ecco Holiday, Rainbow Tours, Exim Tours. During their stay in Qatar the tour operators representatives had the opportunity to get acquainted with the tourist offer of the country. On 21st September they visited the Polish Embassy in Doha. The guest of the Polish Ambassador unanimously confirmed the growing interest among Polish tourists in the destination. For Polish travellers interested in relaxation, culture, sport and recreation, Qatar is able to offer a variety of attractions. Interest in the destination will certainly increase even more due to the organization of the FIFA 2022 World Cup in the country. The cooperation and the meeting with the Polish Embassy was initiated by the Qatar Poland Business Council.

The purpose of the meeting, on 20th September, was to summarize the economic initiatives and the current level of economic relations between the Republic of Poland and the State of Qatar, as well as to discuss mutual plans for the near future in the field. The Polish envoy talked about the economic initiatives of the Polish side so far, which aimed at developing ties between companies. He touched upon frequent editions of the Economic Round Table, the New Tech Forum and brought up the agreements signed before and during the visit of the President of the Republic of Poland between the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW) and Digital Poland Foundation with their corresponding Qatari partners. He also mentioned the main Polish sectors interested in cooperation with Qatari market (energy, high technologies, Agri-tech, defence, financial and investment industries). Minister Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani confirmed his willingness to further develop economic ties based on the excellent current political relations which were crowned with the official visit of the President of the Republic of Poland (December 2021).
