50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Republic of Singapore and the Republic of Poland commemorated by joint release of philatelic stamps by Polish Post and SingPost.

“Throughout the 50 years we have strengthened Polish-Singaporean relations between the governments and the state agencies, in the business sector and last but not least – at the people to people level. Our relations gained a momentum in the recent years, as evidenced by numerous high-level visits. Our countries share the view on a number of global issues: security, multilateralism and free trade” said Ambassador Magdalena Bogdziewicz in her welcome speech. The ceremony was also graced by Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Secretary Mr Ong Eng Chuan, Vicepresidents of the Polish Post and SingPost Mr Andrzej Bodziony Ms Marjorie Ooi. The event was attended by around 100 guests, members of the diplomatic corps, Singaporean administration, academia and cultural institutions as well as representatives of Polish diaspora in Singapore.

The stamps “Birds of Singapore and Poland” feature regionally extinct birds that have been revived in both countries. There are” the oriental pied hornbill and the peregrine falcon. Although these birds are so different from one another they have one important feature in common: both were nearly extinct at the beginning of the 20th century. Nevertheless, thanks to some special efforts, they have revived in the nature.
