Poland’s participation in "Singapore International Cyber Week 2021"

On October 5, 2021 Poland, together with the representatives of Brunei, Indonesia, EU, Romania, the Netherlands and members from the UK business took part in the ministerial opening session of the Singapore International Cyber Week, chaired by Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency CEO Mr. David Koh . This year’s edition of the SICW is held under the slogan “Living with COVID19 - Reimagining digital security risks and opportunities”

The Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland was represented by Mr. Michał Pukaluk, director of the Digital Policy Department. Emphasizing the surge of online threats resulting from the interoperability of systems and the lack of physical barriers, he presented Poland’s experience from the time of pandemic and the challenges related to the accelerated pace of digitization.

Mr. Pukaluk highlighted the effectiveness and security of solutions implemented in Poland as a part of both the digitization policy and activities aimed at preventing the spread of COVID, as well as the need to protect users’ privacy.

He assured that a similar approach will be in place during the global Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2021), which will be host by Poland at the beginning of December 2021 in Katowice.

Izabela Albrycht, a non-governmental expert on cyber security representing the Kosciuszko Institute, was invited to comment on the panel discussion with the participation of the Minister of Communication and Information, Josephine Teo. She underlined the role of the private sector in developing effective and safe solutions and the role of states in agreeing on international standards for responsible behavior and practices of counteracting unfriendly actions. Cybersecurity will be one of the matters that Poland plans to address during its chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in 2022.

The SICW conference, organized periodically by Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency, gathers representatives of government administration from many like-minded countries, analysts, technology companies and experts from information and technology sector who discuss current trends and challenges in the field of digital and cyber security.

As announced by the senior minister, coordinating minister for national security Teo Chee Hean at the inaugural event, the 2021 edition of the conference precedes Singaporean chairmanship of the UN working group  (OEWG) developing security standards in the field of information technology and telecommunications.  The main topics discussed are: the impact of the pandemic and the rapidly accelerating digitalization in all areas of economic activity and social life on the economic prospects, further development of digital sector, need to enhance resilience against growing cyber threats from hostile entities. Experts stressed the urgency of cooperation between governmental, non-governmental and commercial bodies to minimize risks and establish broadly recognized standards to maintain stability and security in the cyberspace.
