Following the decision to grant Poland the privilege of hosting the 16th UN Internet Governance Forum, Ambassador Magdalena Bogdziewicz presented the concept and key elements of the annual conference scheduled for 6-10 December 2021 in Katowice during the meeting at the Ministry of Communication and Information. The Summit gathers representatives of the business, political, scientific, non-governmental and technical organizations, sharing interest in electronic media, digital economy, cybersecurity, human rights on the Internet and media education.
In reference to the priorities and the intended scope of the event Ambassador Karen Tan recognized Poland’s efforts to secure a wider participation of the youth as the key generation that creates the global Internet environment of the future. While discussing the challenges associated with digital technologies, interlocutors agreed that pressure on digitization, which occurred in the context of minimizing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, may accelerate the transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises, favoring at the same time the inclusiveness and popularization of Internet access.
"Introduction of modern technologies must be paired with the responsibility for their usage " - emphasized Ambassador Bogdziewicz, referring to the social impact of the Internet, arising security concerns, the need to maintain freedom of expression and privacy while counteracting the spread of disinformation.
The main theme of the IFG 2021 in Poland is a free and indivisible 'Internet United'.
