Indictment against suspects of espionage for the PRC

An indictment was filed with the court against Piotr D. and Weijing W. suspected of taking part in the intelligence activities of the People's Republic of China against the Republic of Poland.
Piotr D. is a former officer of the Internal Security Agency. Weijing W. worked for a Chinese telecommunications company. They both carried out espionage activities against the interests of the Republic of Poland.
The indictment against the suspects, which on November 16th was brought to the District Court in Warsaw, is the result of preparatory proceedings conducted by the Department of Criminal Proceedings of the Internal Security Agency, under the supervision of the Mazowieckie Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Public Prosecutor's Office.
The preparatory proceedings in this case were initiated on the basis of the notification of the Head of the Internal Security Agency on a justified suspicion of committing a crime under Art. 130 of the Penal Code.
Preventive measures in the form of bail, ban on leaving the country and police supervision were applied against Piotr D. The second accused, Weijing W., is under pre-trial detention.
The accused face imprisonment from 3 to 15 years.
